M7815 – So I bought this suiting fabric from JoAnn’s, and I knew that it would be great for dress pants or a fitted collared dress – BUT once I bought this pattern things changed. Every single time I looked at View B, that fabric would “scream” from my closet “Pick me, pick me!!”
I loved the color, and I was sure it would pop…but I really wanted to work with a more casual fabric so that I could wear the jumpsuit on a weekly basis. I love jumpsuits because I can do absolutely anything in them – which is why I wanted something that I could wash-n-wear…at least 4 or 5 times a month.
This suiting fabric is definitely NOT something I would wear often, however I am so glad I did this. This outfit is perfect for work and church – all I have to do is throw on a fitted top, turtleneck, or collar shirt under it. The layered look would definitely slay this for FALL.
I modified the sleeve by adding a cuff to the end, since the sleeve I cut was too short. You may want to cut your sleeve a little longer than what the pattern calls for if you are expecting this to reach your wrist. My cuff is 4″ long. I basically cut an 8″ by 10″ piece of fabric, folded it in half, then sewed it to the end of the sleeve (gathering the sleeve as I sewed).
I also put in a side zipper instead of a back zipper. I can’t remember if the pattern called for a side zipper, but because it only had one sleeve I thought it would be easier to sew in a zipper on the sleeveLESS side.
Lastly, my front bodice has two darts, and two middle front seams…that happened because I initially cut my body too small. In order to make it wider, I slowly 1) cut the front bodice in half (right down the middle), 2) then I added a 3′ wide strip of fabric to each side….and now I had a bodice that fit.
