V8470

V8470 – Twirl, twirl, twirl!! That is all I could do in this whimsical dress. The bottom of the dress is a double circle skirt, with an attached ruffled lower tier. The circle skirt is so “circular”, I took pictures of my twirling moments so you could see!!! When I tell you I love it, I LOVE IT!!

I chose the halter top view, as I wanted a nice summer dress. I’m sure any view would be nice, although I think this look is the best. The fitted midriff is a style I have to get to used to, as I don’t think the long torso look is very flattering on me (since I have long legs).

I am so tired of putting zippers in everything, so I decided to modify this view a bit – and it worked. When I cut the back bodice, I added an extra 9″ to the width. I chose 9″ because my hips are 7″ bigger than my natural waist. If you were to do the same thing, I suggest you calculate the difference between your (natural waist minus hips), then add 2 to 3″. This is to ensure you can actually pull the dress on. I inserted 4 strips of elastic in between the lining and the back bodice…making the elastic 3″ smaller than my back width. It is very fitted in the back, but stretchy enough to actually be a pull on dress.

I also had to add more fabric to my bottom ruffle tier. Maybe I gathered mine too much, but the suggested amount from the pattern was not nearly enough. I used 6 yards of fabric to make this dress. I really needed 7 yards. I scrambled through the scraps, just to complete this make.

Otherwise, this dress was totally worth it!!
